| Hey guys, this is YTPGod here. I was planning to do the July / August movie reviews on YouTube, but like Animated93, I gave up on doing July and August cause it was hard to come up with thoughts on The Dark Knight while many people are saying the same opinion though on the previous movie review show I survived reviewing WALL-E. So I thought with the Animated93 Fourms up, I'd thought i'd do my movie reviews on here (not including Starscream at the Movies) cause it was easier for me to write my opinion than to yack and yack on a microphone. Now I would like to point out that I'm NOT going to be reviewing The Dark Knight cause many people have already shouted out their opinions of "OMG! This is 1 of teh best movies EVAR!" I felt there was little point of me doing one, not to mention the AVGN, That Guy with the Glasses, and others have already done a review in their own sorta fashion. Let's start things off with Hancock. To be honest, the film had a great 1st act and some fun stuff from earlier in the second act, then it strangely tumbled downwards in the third act | Spoiler: | | | with the Charlize Theron character being the wife of Hancock, and then the three burglars who showed up for just a single scene suddenly become big villians and whatever. | It's unfortunate cause I like Will Smith and Charlize Theron and I just felt they could have gotten something better to star in.
Next up is Hellboy: The Golden Army. I haven't seen the first film back in 2004, but after seeing the sequel, I'm thinking now I'm missing out on something awesome. The visuals were gorgeous to look at, and of course it's Gullermo Del Toro's visual style, the action scenes were fun (my favorite being the scene where Hellboy fights the big ass forest elemental creature), and I thought the cast pulled off some decent performances. Also, a surprise happened when I saw the film, during the film I thought Johann Kraus was voiced by Kelsey Grammer, but when the end credits stated that Seth McFarlane did the voice, I thought "Dude, that sure is a surprise!" and to my opinion, his voice talents in the movie are way better than the sixth season of Family Guy.
Next is Journey to the Center of the Earth, or as I call it, Journey 3D. I saw it in Digital 3D, great, I like that format, but I felt the film was concentrated more on 3D effects and noisy action sequences featuring Brendan Fraiser and teenagers in danger from T-Rexes, piranha-like fishes, and a mine-cart chase that feels like it was crammed into the movie after the writers watched Temple of Doom. Not to mention, the acting was pretty weak and the effects were underwhelming. I guess it's no surprise for me that two of it's three writers were the co-writers / co-directors of Nim's Island, which was also produced by Walden Media.
Lastly there's Space Chimps. Now before it came out, I wasn't expecting much from a movie about chimps going into space, but I was surprised how much I liked it. The animation is isn't really special but it is insanely colorful, the comedy was stupid but funny in a weird sort-of way, and as for Jeff Daniel's voice work as Zartog, in some weird way, I was laughing and enjoying it. So I felt the film was surprisingly decent.
Ratings: Hancock - 5.1 Hellboy: The Golden Army - 8.3 Journey 3D - 4.2 The Dark Knight (not reviewed) - 10 Space Chimps - 6.4
See ya guys soon for the August movie reviews where I review Pineapple Express, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Fly Me to the Moon, Disaster Movie, and Hamlet II. Until then this is YTPGod signing off. |
